A Brief History of Baseball
Though it is now considered America’s national pastime, baseball did not always enjoy such popularity. In fact, the game has its roots in England, where it was being played as early as the 1500s. By the early 1800s, it had become quite popular in the United States as well. However, the game underwent a number of changes before it became the baseball we know today. For example, originally, there were ten players on each team, and the field wasn’t divided into innings. It wasn’t until 1845 that baseball began to resemble the game we play today. With only nine players on each side and a fifty-yard field divided into innings, the modern game of baseball was born. Since then, baseball has gone on to become one of America’s most beloved traditions. From small-town sandlots to Major League stadiums, millions of people across the country enjoy playing and watching this timeless game.
